This academic year I have been the Academic Writing one-to-one support officer for English and Comparative Literatures. In this session, I aim to use my experience with supporting students with their essay writing and interpreting feedback to help Warwick staff to understand why student essays are not always the easiest to read, and how to give feedback that will make marking easier in the future. This is a session not only aimed at humanities disciplines, as the skills which support essay writing in and out of the classroom will foster critical thinking. We will also discuss the emotional and mental health concerns attached to assignments, especially for students in their first and final undergraduate years and how to support anxious essay writers.
