The Winter of Discontent

To mark the reopening of the Modern Records Centre in November 2011, we hosted a discussion on the 1978-9 series of strikes known as the 'Winter of Discontent' between Tony Benn (former Cabinet Minister), Sir Richard Lambert (former Director-General of the Confederation of British Industry), and Rodney Bickerstaffe (former trade union leader).

The public event, held at Warwick Arts Centre, included the participants' recollections of the industrial dispute in 1978-9 and their views on the contemporary situation, including the economic crash of 2007-8 and protests against inequality by the Occupy movement in 2011.
