Sensory Refresh
The library's Sensory Refresh events are interactive sessions with activities to help you explore your sensory profile. These are events you can drop in and out of, and free refreshments are available throughout.
You can also explore below to find out more about what our sessions are like, and what resources the Library has to support accessible, independent study.
Term Two Session

Explore Your Sense of Sound:
1) Interactive Quizzes
Complete our two sound quizzes below to explore your sense of sound.
2) Soundscapes
You can also explore (customisable) extended soundscapes through this link. Soundscapes can be perfect for winding down or for creating a calming study environment.
Explore Your Sense of Sight:
1) Lights
Have you contemplated how light effects your study? Watch the included video to see examples of lights that have been used in our Sensory Refresh event. Plus, the following image depicts a Sensory Refresh set-up designed for exploring different lighting (as well as different seating options). Different lighting options are also available in our Sensory Study Rooms.
2) Coloured Overlays
Do any of the following coloured overlays aid your reading? Do you think any other colours might help?
You can also borrow overlays like this from the Helpdesk on floor 1 on the Library.
Other Library Support
1) Accessible Study RoomsLink opens in a new window
If you are registered with the University Disability Services, you can book the library's Accessible Study RoomsLink opens in a new window. These rooms are perfect for curating a space which suits your unique sensory needs. For instance the rooms have various lighting options (like bubble tubes, LED strip lighting and galaxy star projectors) and seating options available (like rocking chairs, soft seating, wobble cushions and yoga mats).
2) Equipment Available
- Noise cancelling headphones, coloured overlays and a wide range of other accessibility equipment is available at the Library Helpdesk.
3) Apps and Software
Many apps and software can aid and improve productivity. Below is a list of either University licenced or free tools:
- ColorVeil - Coloured screen filters to reduce visual stress.
- Noisili - Noise simulator to aid productivity and relaxation.
- OpenDyslexic - Font designed to improve readability for people with dyslexia.
- Dolphin EasyReader - Reading app to improve accessibility and readability of electronic formats.
