A Calling to Sustainable Career Development
About
This article formed part of a special issue of Phoenix, the periodical for AGCAS: the professional body for higher education career and employability professionals. The issue focused on how career services were considering and addressing sustainability in their work. We chose to look at this alongside our interest in personal vocation or 'calling', a concept of contemporary relevance to career development work, linked to wellbeing, happiness and subjective career success. We raised some of the ways that a commitment to a calling can work against individual success and the ethical dilemmas for practitioners.
