The University of Warwick is pleased to invite you to our annual media reception, on the evening of Wednesday 18th April in Warwick Business School’s campus in the Shard.

NHS

The reception, which is open to all those in online, print and broadcast journalism and production, will also see Warwick researchers preview a landmark research project on the NHS, ahead of the 70th anniversary of the opening of the first NHS hospital on the 5th July 1948.

Subject of a forthcoming BBC documentary series, the Cultural History of the NHS is a ground-breaking project by researchers from Warwick’s Department of History into the impact the NHS has had on the daily lives of individuals, communities and the nation, and how it has shaped perceptions of Britain at home and abroad.

  • Professor Roberta Bivins, Dr Jack Saunders and Dr Natalie Linda Jones from Warwick's Department of History will provide a short presentation on the project during the reception.

The project, through the People’s History of the NHS website, is encouraging members of the public to share images, objects, artefacts and recollections of the NHS and read those shared by others – creating a unique archive and 'virtual museum' of the public’s experiences of the service, which will be highlighted in the BBC series.

Guests will also have the opportunity to meet with academics from across Warwick involved with health research, including: chemists developing innovative new treatments for killer diseases such as cancer, and leading economists and researchers from Warwick Business School with insight on health funding.

Booking is essential for this event. Spaces are limited and due to demand we will confirm your attendance on a first come, first served basis in the weeks running up to the evening.
