As Student Progression and Support Officer with the Department of History, my role supports departmental administration in two key areas; welfare and wellbeing, and teaching and learning.
My duties and responsibilities include:
- Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the University’s support services, policies, procedures and best practice
- Providing advice and support to students experiencing pastoral difficulties
- Alongside the Academic Administrator, I oversee the allocation of Personal Tutors to students across all programmes
- I also provide advice and guidance to Personal Tutors on administrative processes relating to personal tutoring
- Alongside the UG Coordinator, I ensure the preparation of complete and accurate mitigating circumstances information
- Supporting the Mitigating Circumstances Panel and other student progress meetings, advising and briefing the Chair of the Board of Examiners on student welfare issues
- Organising staff training sessions in liaison with Department Senior Tutors and Wellbeing Support Services
- Supporting the Senior Tutor team to develop and deliver an annual programme of wellbeing activities in the department
- Analysing a range of student wellbeing and progression data for the department to understand trends and patterns to improve its strategies on how best to support students with welfare issues
- Leading the overview and processing of extension and self-certification requests
- Acting as a second-stage approver for students taking temporary or permanent withdrawal
- Working with UG and PG Coordinators to manage students exit and return to study
- Overseeing the administration of all temporary withdrawal students in the department
- Supporting the Academic Administrator in reviewing all students’ attendance, in line with University policy.
