Student life in the SMLC

From our home in the new Faculty of Arts Building, we have access to state-of-the-art learning facilities including seminar rooms, our own flexible research and learning spaces and a Transnational Resources Centre, equipped with a video library of foreign language cinema and social learning spaces for the exclusive use of language students.

Community is at the core of our school. You'll be part of an immensely supportive environment and a vibrant social life, with student-led societies running trips overseas, cultural and social events throughout the year.

Student-led societies

Be prepared for groovy socials, thought-provoking guest speakers and informative collaborations with other societies. Not to mention brand new merchandise, annual formal dinner, a foreign tour, a ball and much more...

Our diverse and inclusive society puts on a range of both academic and social events throughout the year. Whether you're an Picasso novice or Kahlo connoisseur, everyone is welcome!

“I’m from Italy and I chose Warwick for Art History because I’m interested in Contemporary Art which has its centres in London and New York so I wanted my course to be in English. Warwick is perfectly positioned to access the great collections and it combines this with being a very student focussed and friendly department.”

Francesco, third year student

A welcoming community

"... our lectures and seminars were in small groups. This meant that we were a tight-knit bunch, gathering in the Humanities Café during lunches, and giving a recognised nod to our peers around campus. This feeling of community thrives within the very ecosystem of the SMLC. I felt welcome in whichever class I attended, even when I knew nobody to begin with."

Melissa Chan Cheape, SMLC 2020 Graduate (BA Hispanic Studies and French)

Student support

Student care is crucial to us. Your learning is carefully supported throughout by accessible and engaged teaching staff. Every student also has a pastoral tutor, who oversees your general wellbeing as well as your academic progress.

We engage our students’ voices often, consulting with our student body on matters such as curriculum, teaching and their experience of day-to-day student life.
