Tom Whittaker has recently returned from completing a visiting fellowship at Brown University, Rhode Island, which took place in April 2021. At Brown, Tom delivered a public hybrid lecture entitled 'Photography and Postmemory in Pedro Almodóvar's Madres paralelas' and delivered a workshop to PhD students.

As part of their artistic residency in the SMLC in late April 2022, Amazonian writer Juan Carlos Galeano and Martiniquian performance artist Henri Tauliaut will offer public events on 27 and 28 April to explore how written, visual, and performative practices can address issues of memory, sustainability and justice in precarious environments. All are welcome.

Tom Whittaker's recent monograph, The Spanish Quinqui Film: Delinquency, Sound, Sensation (Manchester University Press) has been shortlisted for the best monograph award of 2021 by the British Association of Film, Television and Screen Studies.

Raquel Navas, Teaching Fellow in Hispanic Studies, has been awarded with the 𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗘 (Asociación para la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera) 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗔 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘀 for her work on Linguist Landscapes as a tool to promote connections with the target language and culture. This award recognizes the best dissertation of the year and will publish Raquel's work in 2021.

Michela Coletta will be co-presenting with Dr Malayna Raftopolous at the workshop 'Global Environmental and Global Security Governance' at Aalborg University (Denmark) on 1 December.

The University of Warwick’s Institute for Advanced Study has today opened its call for applications under the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions COFUND scheme (deadline: 30th November 2017). The fellowships offer successful applicants two years at Warwick, starting in September 2018. These fellowships are intended to be strongly linked to Warwick’s Global Research Priorities.
