Greg Challis awarded Royal Society Wolfson Award

The Royal Society has announced the appointment of 22 new Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award holders including Professor Greg Challis of the Department of Chemistry.

Art & Photography Competition Winner

Congratulations to the winner of the "Chemistry In Action" Art & Photography Competition, David Withall (PhD student in Challis group), for his entry "Chemically Synthesised Undecylprodigiosin".

David will receive a £50 Amazon Voucher from the Head of Department and Chair of the Welfare & Communications Committee, plus the artwork will soon be displayed prominently in the Department.

Thank you to all those who entered the competition, the final decision was very diffcult for the judging panel as there were so many interesting entries and the standard was very high. Well done David!

Professor Rachel O'Reilly wins an ACS award

Rachel has been awarded the 2013 Herman F. Mark Young Scholar award by the American Chemical Society. This award is presented biennially to recognize excellence in basic or applied research and leadership in polymer science by scientist aged thirty five or younger. She will be presented with this award at a special symposium at the Fall ACS conference.

Dr Matthew I Gibson receives Macro Group UK Young Researchers' Medal

Dr Matt Gibson has been awarded the RSC Macrogroup Young Researchers Medal for 2012. He will receive his medal at Conference in Durham in July this year, where he will also be giving a lecture. This medal is awarded to a UK-based scientist, normally under the age of 36 on 31 December of the preceding year, whose contributions to polymer science show outstanding promise for the future. This is excellent news for Matt and the Department of Chemistry. Congratulations to Matt!

Daniel Phillips wins RSC Poster Prize

Daniel Phillips, a 2nd year PhD student in the Gibson Group, won the prize for best poster at the RSC Postgraduate Nanoscience Symposium held at the University of Birmingham.

Dr Rebecca Notman Awarded Royal Society University Research Fellowship

Lucienne Otten and Robert Deller win Poster Prizes

Two members of the Gibson group have won poster prizes. Robert Deller won 1st Place at the RSC younger Members symposium (at Uni. Nottingham) for his work on Peptidomimetic Cryopreservation Agents. Lucienne Otten won 3rd place at the Systems Biology Annual Conference for her work on Label Free Analysis of Protein-Carbohydrate Interactions.
