Warwick Computer Science Education Research Group at UKICER 2026
Members of Warwick’s Computer Science Education Research Group attended UKICER 2026 at the University of Cambridge, sharing some of their work and connecting with the wider Computer Science education research community.
Claire Rocks and Wendy Yanez Pazmino helped lead a Research in Practice Project Activity (RIPPA), Assessing Assessment in the Age of AI: A Collaborative Framework for Computer Science. The interactive session brought computing educators together to explore how generative AI is changing Computer Science assessment and to contribute to the development of a practical framework for evaluating assessment in terms of validity, authenticity and inclusivity.
Ayşe Saliha Sunar presented two posters exploring the use of AI to support learning and feedback in computing education. Beyond Automated Scoring: Process-Level Feedback for Conceptual Computer Networking Answers with a Locally Deployable LLM, with Xixiang Zhang, explored the potential for locally deployed language models to provide richer feedback on students’ conceptual understanding. RAG Learner: An Interactive Tool for Teaching Retrieval-Augmented Generation, with Syed Rudin Bin Syed Manshor, presented an interactive approach to helping students understand retrieval-augmented generation.
The group was also represented at the conference by Ian Saunders, Andrew Hague, Imran Khan, Mohammed Vaziri, Khalil Challita and Harjinder Lallie. The strong presence at UKICER reflects the growing range of Computer Science education research taking place across the group, particularly around assessment, artificial intelligence and approaches to improving student learning.
