Charis Cook took on the role of GARNet Liaison Officer in June 2012. She had previously been a post-doctoral researcher in Alessandra Devoto's group at Royal Holloway University of London, where she completed her PhD in 2011. Her research focussed on transcriptional and physical characterisation of secondary cell wall modified tobacco plants. She also worked with white rot fungi, pretreating the cell wall biomass of the engineered tobacco lines in order to improve sugar release efficiency. Charis graduated from Imperial College London in 2008.
