Frequently asked questions after PGT Exam Board results
Frequently asked questions after PGT Exam Board results
Definitions:
- Additional Info says "Resit" = You have been offered a resubmission (which will normally be your 2nd opportunity to submit) but this will be the final opportunity to pass. There will be no further resubmission opportunities and so if you fail you will be considered at the next Exam Board for an exit award (such as PG Dip, PG Cert, PG Award.) If this is your 3rd (or more) opportunity to submit, this is highly exceptional and was based on your individual mitigation. Do not expect a further chance after this if your result states "Resit"
- Additional Info says "FFA" (Further First Attempt) = You will resit as a further first attempt – i.e. no cap will be applied to the mark you achieve.
- Additional Info says "Extension to" = You will be given an extension to an existing project or existing module assignment attempt. This is not a resit or FFA but is a deadline extension.
- Result says "Extension" = Your registration is being extended to enable whatever resit, FFA, or actual extension is detailed in "Additional Info"
- Result says "Academic Fail" = This means no award was given to you. If you believe this to be incorrect you can query it. If you wish to appeal an academic fail you have the right to do this within 10 working days of the result being communicated to you.

I don't have my results yet, but I need to know whether to register to attend Graduation
It is usual for the deadline for registering for Graduation to be before your results are published. If you are intending to attend the ceremony (should you be successful) you should ensure that you register for Graduation. In the event that you are not eligible to graduate, you will be automatically removed from the list.
I’ve had my results from WMG Exam Board. Can you send me a ‘confirmation of award’ letter?
No – the Confirmation of Award letter is not issued by WMG but once your award has been fully conferred by the University (you must wait for the confirmation of conferral email) you can request a confirmation of award letter from the Student Information Centre either in person at Senate House or via request a Confirmation of Award letter.
I haven't received a conferral of award email but my classmates have. When will I get it?
Please do not worry - these emails take some time to get through. This is done by a different University team and not WMG. We can assure you that your result has been passed on and you will get the email soon.
Can I request a copy of my transcript?
The Board of Examiners are recommending this award to the University Senate. The Exam Board recommendation will be officially conferred by University of Warwick Senate, prior to the Senate approval the recommendation is provisional.
Until your award is conferred, you may still request a performance report from the WMG Student Office.
Once your award is conferred, WMG are no longer able to issue an interim performance report. A printed copy of your transcript will be produced for your Degree Congregation or if you are not attending Graduation this will be sent to you after the ceremony. There is further information relating to this here: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/academicoffice/studentrecords/records/transcript.Unfortunately there are no other options for receiving a transcript in this interim period.
When can I get my digital graduation certificate?
Following conferral of your award, you will shortly be issued with a Digital Certificate via Gradintelligence. You do not need to request a digital certificate, or take any other action. Your digital certificate will be issued at the earliest opportunity and you will receive an email directly from Gradintelligence when it is ready for you to view.
Why can't I see my resubmissions on Tabula?
Tabula submission pages are not created automatically, and are created on a case by case basis in conjunction with the setting of deadlines. Therefore this is a slow and careful process, to ensure students with multiple resubmissions have suitable deadlines. You can expect to see your resubmission on Tabula 3-4 weeks prior to the assignment deadline. Staff will be issuing deadlines and new assignment questions (where appropriate) to students via email approximately 8 weeks after the Exam Board has released your results. Students who wish to extend their student visa should be aware that it is a requirement that the department monitors your engagement during any visa extension period and it is therefore important that submission deadlines are staggered appropriately in order to provide engagement monitoring points.
Can I resub my work quickly and get my results earlier/ graduate earlier?
No – there are only two periods of the year in which Exam Boards can make awards, related to the two graduation ceremonies held by the University. It is not possible to be considered outside of these periods.
What can I do if I do not agree with my project mark?
The University does not accept appeals against academic judgement, and as all marking passes through a thorough moderation process before it is published, requests for a re-mark will not be considered.
Can I change my supervisor for my resubmission?
Students are not generally permitted to change their supervisor for their resubmission to ensure continuity. Supervisors can be changed for the following reasons supported with satisfactory evidence:
- WMG or the University requires it as a result of a formal complaint or appeal
- A supervisor is no longer available to supervise for any reason
- There has been an irretrievable breakdown in the relationship
- Where a supervisor repeatedly fails to comply with the requirements of the role or the supervisors contract.
- There has been a break in learning that results in a change of focus
Can I change my Ethical Approval for my resubmission?
Students are advised not to collect any NEW data for any resubmission of their dissertation. If you are registered on a course based at the Warwick campus you are not allowed to conduct any primary data collection whilst resident overseas, only whilst living in the UK. If your resubmission project would be unlikely to pass without collecting some new data, then your supervisor should guide you and follow the ethical approvals process to do this for your resubmission. You are required to stay on the same topic though. If you collect any new data that was not described within the original submission, then you MUST go through the ethical approvals process again. Any new data collection must not start until you receive a new ethical approval reference number. Projects submitted using data gathered from or about people without ethical approval will be subject to penalties, which could include failing your dissertation module.
If you have an explicit comment in your exam board result relating to ethical approval then you must follow what is stated there. Discuss it with your supervisor if you are not sure what is meant.
Can I start a brand new dissertation topic?
Students should not start a new topic/ project, unless you have specifically been told to do this in a formal email from the exams team. The resubmission period is normally to work with their supervisor on the chapters of the project that need to be worked upon. You should include a page outlining the changes and improvements that you have made to your dissertation when you resubmit. Your supervisor should advise you how they would like this to be done.
No, you are not permitted to retake any modules.
Projects go through a quality assurance process called moderation where both the marks proposed by your supervisor, and the second assessor, are reviewed. If any changes are recommended, your supervisor would have been included in the process and would be aware of any reasons so if you have any concerns about your mark please contact your supervisor for further feedback. The process is based on academic judgement and cannot be appealed.
Can I appeal my overall result?
An appeal can only be made if you have either been award a lower qualification than the one for which you were registered, or have received academic fail as your outcome. You can not appeal against a mark, or the classification of your award. There are also strict criteria for the grounds that would constitute a valid appeal. Please see the following page for further information: https://warwick.ac.uk/services/academicoffice/modules_marks_assessments/students/appeals
Can I have feedback on my project?
This should have been published to you via Tabula. If you need further clarification please contact your supervisor to arrange a meeting to discuss this.
I need to resubmit my project, do I need to extend my visa (where applicable)?
If you are on a student visa it is acceptable for you to resubmit your dissertation remotely from a home country, without the need for an extension to your student visa. This is assuming that it is a standard resubmission (i.e. you are just rewriting and are not starting any new research. Please note: you may not start a new project unless you have been specifically instructed to following an Ethics Panel recommendation).
If you are required to collect new data e.g. due to ethical issues with your original project, you must collect this data within the UK and so you would need to extend your visa.
If you request an extension to your student visa we would expect you to remain in the UK, and WMG would be required to monitor your attendance with regular meetings with your supervisor. Your monitoring points will be added to your Tabula 'attendance' tab.

I need a specific date listed on my certificate
The date on your certificate is the date that your award is approved by Steering Committee, not the date of your degree ceremony. We will not be able to confirm the date which will be on your certificate in advance as we cannot confirm when your award (or if an award) will be approved for you and the dates of departmental Examination Board Meetings can vary. Your department may be able to confirm to you the date of your Examination Board which can give you an idea of when your award will go to the Steering Committee to be approved.
Please note that even if you defer your attendance to a future ceremony, the date on your certificate would not change as it will always be the date your award was officially approved by Steering Committee.
