Our Future Health for the Research Community

Our Future Health is the world’s largest prospective cohort study designed to catalyse aetiologic and translational research and enable researchers to find new ways to prevent, detect, and treat diseases.

Our Future Health has already recruited over 2 million UK adults, who have consented to join the programme and share their health records with researchers. Over 1 million of these volunteers have become full participants, by completing a health and lifestyle questionnaire and attending an appointment to donate a sample of blood for genetic analysis. The data available provides unrivalled scale and statistical precision for research studies. Sample access and ancillary studies will also be facilitated, providing a unique programme that will catalyse translational research.

The webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn about this world-leading resource and the research opportunities it enables.

This seminar is taking place on Monday 24th February 2025 - 12.00pm-1.00pm - MS Teams (link will be sent on registration)

What to expect:

In this one-hour webinar, there will be a 30-minute presentation by Dr Ryan Arathimos, Senior Statistical Geneticist with Our Future Health and Dr Jodie Lord, Senior Product Manager, followed by a 30-minute Q&A session.

The presentation will include:

·Programme overview: learn about the key features of our programme and our objectives.

·Recruitment milestones: discover our volunteer recruitment strategy and our achievements to date, including recent recruitment numbers and diversity data.

·A platform for research: gain insights into our researcher and data programme, including an overview of the data available to researchers, a walkthrough of our access process, and examples of research already utilising our unique dataset. We’ll also discuss the support from research funding councils.

·Q&A session: there will be time allotted for you to ask questions, provide feedback, and discuss how we can collaborate to achieve our common goals.

Target audience

This event is aimed at researchers interested in learning more about a programme that can assist with discovery and translational research. Research that will ultimately help people live longer, healthier lives by accelerating the discovery and testing of more effective methods for preventing, detecting early, and treating diseases.

Dr Ryan Arathimos is a Senior Statistical Geneticist at Our Future Health, responsible for generating, curating, and releasing the organisation’s genetic data. He has played a key role in designing the Our Future Health genotype array, overseeing the ongoing genotyping of study participants, and developing genetic data products made available to researchers through the Our Future Health Trusted Research Environment. Prior to this role, Ryan worked at King’s College London and the University of Bristol, where he conducted research on the genetic determinants of common diseases using data from extensive cohort studies, including the UK Biobank and ALSPAC. Ryan completed his PhD in 2017 at the University of Bristol, focusing on the epigenetics of childhood asthma.

Dr Jodie Lord

Jodie is a Senior Product Manager at Our Future Health, where she leads the development of the Researcher Experience. She holds a PhD in Biostatistics and Health Informatics from King’s College London and has research expertise in statistical genetics, prediction modelling, causal inference, blood biomarkers, and neurodegeneration.
