Funding for student-led conferences

The Researcher Development Programme (RD) can provide funding for postgraduate research students wishing to organise a conference, seminar or meeting around your research area.

September 16 2019 Funding is now open!

Funding will be prioritised for those that have not had a bursary before. ( If you have had money previously - please contact me first before completing your application)

Any bursaries granted will be transferred to your department and must be spent by 31 July 2020 (unless you are advised otherwise by your department).

Please note: this funding is NOT a travel grant to aid you in attending national or international conferences.

How to apply

You will need to apply for the funding to the RD providing details of the scope and impact of the activity/event and what skills you and your colleagues envisage developing during the organisational and presentation process.

  • Your application must be approved and signed by your Head of Department. Funding is limited to a maximum of £300 per academic department per year.
  • Please ensure that it is completed thoroughly otherwise your application may not be accepted.

We found the experience of organising this event very rewarding. It helped increase our awareness of less familiar aspects of academic events, including the difficulties one may encounter when setting up a conference programme.
