National Union of Boot and Shoe Rivetters and Finishers: 'Monthly Reports', 1877-1890

The National Union of Operative Boot and Shoe Rivetters and Finishers was founded in 1874 and renamed the National Union of Boot and Shoe Operatives in 1890. The Modern Records Centre has bound editions of the union's 'Monthly Reports' from June 1877 to April 1971 (when the union merged with three other unions to form the National Union of the Footwear, Leather and Allied Trades). The monthly reports include union and industry news, including branch reports, balance sheets, lists of firms on strike or blocked, lists of members and occasional poems and jokes. Early editions can also include a 'wanted' column containing descriptions of individuals wanted for theft.

The first seven volumes, covering 1877-1890, have been digitised and are available through the Modern Records Centre's catalogue. Full annual lists of members are included in reports for February 1879, March 1880, February 1881-1888, and separately in the volume covering 1889-1890.
