Prison life in England, 1873

Portrayal of a convict's eye view of 'Prison life in England', published in The Graphic in 1873. The illustrations show a prisoner alone in a bare punishment cell and 'before the governor', carefully caged in the governor's office. The arrows on the prison uniform can just be seen.

This document is included in the archives of the Howard League for Penal Reform.
