"A bright future", 5 Jun 1888

Report of the first official match (and first Old Firm derby) played by Celtic FC on 28 May 1888. Celtic beat Rangers 5-2 in what was described as a "fast and friendly" match which suggested that the Glasgow club might have "a bright future". The religious sectarian divisions between the two clubs is not referred to in the article, and a representative of Rangers is prominent on the platform during the evening celebrations.
