The Defence of Ethiopia

In 1935 Mussolini's Italy invaded Abyssinia (now known as Ethiopia). Fighting against the occupation (by the Abyssinia army and by guerrilla units) continued until the Italian defeat in East Africa in 1941.

The documents below are leaflets, circulars and other items of ephemera relating to the international (in this case mostly British) response to the Italian invasion. All but one oppose the Italian action - the exception is a leaflet issued by the British Union of Fascists in 1935. These items are included in a large file in the Trades Union Congress archive on the Italian invasion [MSS.292/963/2]. A 'ready-made' search of our online catalogue identifies some of the other sources at the Modern Records Centre on the Second Italo-Ethiopian War.
