Then and Now: Arts at Warwick

Then & Now: Arts at Warwick is a student-led research and public engagement project that will explore the history of the Arts Faculty and student experience at the University of Warwick. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from across Arts are working collaboratively to conduct archival research at the Modern Records Centre and Students’ Union and interviews with staff and students, past and present.

Coronavirus closure
In accordance with the University of Warwick's policy to suspend all but business critical activities during the current Coronavirus outbreak, the Modern Records Centre will be closing on 20 March 2020. The duration of the closure is currently uncertain but will be at least 3 months, probably more.
Staff will continue to work (from home) to improve access to the MRC's resources, answer enquiries and provide a public service for our researchers. Inevitably the service that we can provide will be limited - we will have no access to the physical collections in our strongrooms, and so will be unable to fulfil copying orders or provide detailed answers to some enquiries.
We wish all of our researchers and colleagues the best during this current period and look forward to seeing you when we reopen.

A re-discovered stash of photos from a young women’s charity
This scene by the River Leam during a weekend camp at Church Farm, Old Milverton is from one of eighty photographs which were left with other records in the Young Women’s Christian Association College at Selly Oak in Birmingham when the property was sold to the German-Speaking Congregation in 1978. Mrs Dorothee Muller, whose late father was the Congregation’s minister at the time, kindly donated them to us in February 2020. They depict YWCA activities and premises at home and abroad during and just after the Second World War.
