Examination dates and times

There multiple examination periods taking place throughout the year at Warwick. For a full list of examination dates and times, please visit the Examination Dates and Times webpage .

Some modules may include locally timetabled examinations and/or in-class tests which fall outside of the dates listed at the above link. Your department will inform you of dates and times for these assessments.

Exam timetables

A full list of expected publication dates for exam timetables can be found on the Examination Dates and Times webpage . Please note, these dates are provisional and may be subject to change.

We publish exam timetables as early as possible. However, the construction of an exam timetable is a high complex process involving various stages, resulting in timetables for larger exam periods taking weeks to complete.

 

We are unable to commence exam scheduling until all module registrations have been confirmed by departments. For the summer exam period, both Term 1 (Autumn) and Term 2 (Spring) module registration windows impact the point at which timetable construction can begin.

You will only be included in the exam timetable for modules you are registered for. If you are not registered, the exam will not appear in your personalised timetable and you will not be allocated a seat in the exam venue for in-person exams.

 

To check your module registrations, please visit Evision and click the Module Registration tab. Alternatively, you can view your registrations in Tabula via the Modules tab.

If you notice a registration is missing, please contact your home department as soon as possible.

 

Downloadable timetables are published for each exam period. These timetables are in Microsoft Excel () format and can be accessed via the relevant Examination Timetable page. Please be aware that in some instances multiple versions of a timetable may be published. We therefore recommend that you check the relevant exam timetable page regularly.

For in-person examinations taking place on-campus that are part of the central exam timetable(s), your personalised timetable will be available to view in Evision after the exam timetable has been published. To access general timetables, please visit this page.

 

Please note, locally timetabled exams and in-class tests will not appear in your personalised timetables.

Seat numbers for in-person exams are normally published after the timetable has been made available to students. This information is available in your personalised timetable.

For in-person examinations that include reading time, students are expected to arrive and enter the exam room 20 minutes before the standard start time (09:30 for morning exams; 14:00 for afternoon exams). Students will be permitted a total of 15 minutes undisturbed reading time prior to other candidates entering the exam room.

Your personalised timetable will list the earlier start time.

If there are no exams appearing in your personalised timetable, please contact your home department as soon as possible.

If you notice an exam in your personalised timetable for a module that you should not be registered for, please contact your home department as soon as possible.

If you notice that an exam is missing from your personalised timetable that you’re expecting to take, please contact your home department as soon as possible.

Please note, it may not be possible to amend the exam timetable once it has been published.

Please contact your home department as soon as possible and submit a request via the Mitigating Circumstances Portal. We strongly recommend that you read the Mitigating Circumstances policy before taking any action.

 

Deferral of an exam period must take place before the exam period has commenced and you have taken your first examination. The University does not permit part-deferral of an exam period. Taking an in-person examination

Exam venue information is available in your personalised timetable. A full list of venues used for each exam session can be viewed on the Campus Maps and Exam Venues webpage. Please note, exam venues will only appear on this page once the exam timetable has been published for the relevant exam period.

As per University Regulation 10.2[12], students are advised to arrive at the exam venue 20 minutes before the start of their examination. Students arriving late for an exam will be permitted to enter the room for up to 30 minutes after the start of the exam.

Please note, no extra time will be allowed to compensate for a student’s late arrival.

All students are required to bring their student ID card for the purposes of checking attendance at an in-person exam. If you have forgotten to bring your student ID card, a photographic ID (i.e., drivers’ licence) may be accepted in its place. Any doubt of whether a photographic ID is acceptable will be left to the discretion of the senior invigilator.

 

If you have no identification, you will be required to speak to an invigilator at the end of the examination and be granted the opportunity to fetch your ID, if this is located within the exam venue (e.g., in a bag/coat outside the exam room).

 

Students who are still unable to provide ID will be permitted to complete the examination, but their home department will be notified.

Yes. All phones and smart devices must be switched off, placed into the transparent bag provided and placed under your chair.

 

The standard penalty for possession (i.e., the device is not inside the bag provided) of a phone or other smart device is a mark of zero being awarded for the examination by the marker. Please see Regulation 10.2(6)[a] for further information.

 

No. Bags are not permitted in the exam room. Depending on the exam venue, there may be baggage storage available. For more information, please visit Permitted Items and Baggage Storage webpage.

Please note, all personal property is left at the student’s own risk, even where dedicated baggage storage facilities exist.

 

Yes. Both coats and jackets are permitted in the exam room but must remain on the back of your chair and must not be accessed during the exam.

 

No. Students are not permitted food in the exam room unless approved for medical reasons, for which documentary evidence will be required as you enter the room.

Students are permitted to bring one clear container of still water. Bottles should have labels removed before entering the exam venue.

All items found in rooms following an examination are taken to the Examinations Team who, during in-person exam periods, are based in Room JX0.15 in Junction Building (Ground Floor). For our latest opening times, please visit the Contact Us section of our website.

Alternative Exam Arrangements (AEAs)

Unlike reasonable adjustments, Alternative Exam Arrangements are measures put in place, once approved, that directly impact examinations. You may be granted reasonable adjustments but not AEAs. Examples of AEAs include:

    • extra writing time
    • use of a PC (for in-person examinations)
    • a scribe or amanuensis
    • "Stop the clock" rest breaks
    • a separate or smaller room
    • a reader

    If you require alternative exam arrangements on disability grounds, please make an appointment with the Disability Team as soon as you can. Following that discussion and with your consent, your department and the Examinations Team will be informed of any adjustments required for examinations.

     

    If you have approved AEAs that permit extra time, but this is not reflected in your personalised timetable, please contact your home department as soon as possible.

    Most students who have extra time and/or require the use of a PC are seated centrally in the summer exam period. The current rooms used for this purpose are TBC for the 2022/23 academic year. Students with additional arrangements may be required to sit in department. In these instances, the room will appear as INDEPT in your personalised timetable.

     

    For all other exam periods, students with approved AEAs will sit in-person exams in department with INDEPT appearing in their personalised timetable.

    Examinations where the room in your personalised timetable is listed as INDEPT will be arranged by your home department. They should be in touch with you to confirm the location of your exam and any additional arrangements they’ve put in place.
