Diabetes (PGCert/PGDip) (2024 Entry)

Our PG Certificate and PG Diploma in Diabetes aim to equip you with the skills you need to provide high-quality care for diabetes patients. The programmes also enable you to develop your knowledge in other relevant areas of healthcare. These areas can cover topics such as medical education, public health or leadership and management, if this appeals.
Course overview
This course is designed for specialist nurses, GPs, hospital doctors and other health professionals involved in the care of people with diabetes.
For your PG Certificate, you'll either study three diabetes-focused modules, or two diabetes modules and one module on a different (but related) topic.
After this, if you wish to continue your study you can progress to the PG Diploma.
Our flexible, modular structure allows you to study over a period suited to your own professional needs and circumstances. Taught by experts in diabetes from Warwick Medical School, this is an interactive programme where you will learn through seminars, group work and individual study.
General entry requirements
Minimum requirements
A good Honours Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience/professional qualifications which will be considered by the Course Director on a case-by-case basis) and experience of working in the healthcare sector.

- Band A
- With specific component scores of 6.5 in reading and writing.

- Postgraduate Induction and Your Professional Development (induction module)
You will select two or three of the following modules:
- Advancing Diabetes Care: Evidence into practice
- Preventing Diabetes Complications: An Evidence Based Approach
- Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: Evidence into Practice
- Diabetes in Pregnancy
- Applied Pharmacology and Therapeutics in Diabetes Care
And one of the following modules (if only two diabetes modules were taken):

Postgraduate Diploma
You will select one of the following modules:
- Understanding Research and Critical Appraisal in Health Care (Onsite)
- Understanding Research and Critical Appraisal in Health Care (Distance learning)
And two of the following modules (including at least one Diabetes module):

Teaching
This is an interactive programme. You will learn through lectures and seminars, practical group work and guided reading. You will benefit from guided discussions and have the opportunity to practice the skills you have learnt during the sessions.
Face-to-face modules are organised in blocks of intensive study lasting two to five days at a time. Online variants run over four to eight weeks.
Class sizes
Class sizes will vary, however on average they comprise of 20-25 students.
Assessment
Assessment for each module varies and may include written essays/reports of +4,000 words, scientific posters, 10-15 minute oral presentations, portfolios evidencing practice.
Your timetable
Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, listing your allocated lectures, seminars, and other small group classes. Your compulsory modules will be registered for you when you join us.

Tuition fees
Tuition fees are payable for each year of your course at the start of the academic year, or at the start of your course, if later. This course is part of Warwick Medical School which follows a non-standard fee structure. Full fee details are listed via the 'find your course fees' button. Academic fees cover the cost of tuition, examinations and registration and some student amenities.
Fee Status Guidance
We carry out an initial fee status assessment based on the information you provide in your application. Students will be classified as Home or Overseas fee status. Your fee status determines tuition fees, and what financial support and scholarships may be available. If you receive an offer, your fee status will be clearly stated alongside the tuition fee information.
