What we are looking for?
Scholarships are highly competitive and we are looking for students with aspiration as well as intellectual aptitude. You should possess an innovative approach to problem solving, well developed technical skills, a willingness to work in a cross-disciplinary training and research setting. It is important that you are open to learning new skills, which might be outside the field of your undergraduate and/or masters degree.
We normally only consider candidates who are in possession of a good BSc Honours degree (preferably at least a 2:1 or equivalent) or who are about to be awarded a Masters degree.
We will also consider applications from individuals who have significant industry experience or equivalent.
Who is eligible to apply?
Scholarships funded by the EPSRC are usually for UK and eligible EU students. International students are welcome to apply, but it is likely you will need funding from another source. Check latest eligibility criteria here.
To be eligible for a full award (stipend and fees):
A student must have:
Settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay
and
Been 'ordinarily resident' in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant. This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences)
and
Not been residing in the UK wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education. (This does not apply to UK or EU nationals)
To be eligible for a fees only award:
Students from EU countries other than the UK are generally eligible for a fees-only award. To be eligible for a fees-only award, a student must be ordinarily resident in a member state of the EU, in the same way as UK students must be ordinarily resident in the UK.
Note: These eligibility criteria are based on the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997 and subsequent amendments, covering England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
