Dr. Roger Packwood Retires from the Department
Dr. Roger Packwood has been a part of the department longer than most of the buildings have been on campus, including the current Department of Computer Science.
He initially joined the Department of Computer Science in the 1970s as an undergraduate, progressing to a postgraduate and finally becoming a member of staff in 1980s, gaining a wealth of experience in the process. Roger likely knows the current Computer Science building and its history and/or secrets better than anybody else on campus.
As Technical Manager, he would support staff and students in a unique way that made them feel as if he were in their shoes. His years of experience and knowledge gave him the ability to guide them, no matter what task they may have been working on. Roger had a passion for all Departmental activities, be they undergraduate student projects or postgraduate research and was invaluable in providing support and the tools to help them succeed. Furthermore, in 2017, Roger was the winner of an Unsung Hero University Award.
Paul Williamson (Systems Manager) said:
I have worked with Roger for almost 20 years and in that time, he has been a valued support and guide for many within the department. I and many others will miss seeing him in the Department and the Department will very much miss his presence.
