Participant Information Leaflet and Consent

Welcome and thank you for your interest in this research study! The project aims to explore whether artificial intelligence and large language models can assist lecturers in generating feedback and predicting grades for long written coursework, which includes texts and images. 

The research will use the MSc level coursework submissions to CS430 and CS910 25\26 modules in PDF/Word format, a marking rubric, and the human-generated feedback and marks awarded. 

If you choose to participate, your feedback and marks generated for each coursework submission will be downloaded from Tabula and will be anonymised by deleting your name and any personal identifiable information. Your raw and anonymised data along with the module name and code will not be uploaded to, or processed through, any external or third-party LLM interface or hosted service. Only locally downloaded LLM models will be used in the controlled and secured Warwick servers and computers. 

The AI-generated grades and feedback will be produced only after the cohort has graduated and this will not influence official academic outcomes.

Your participation is completely voluntary. If you choose not to participate, you can simply close the browser or click on “I do not wish to participate” option below. 

Once your anonymised human-generated feedback and marks have been given to the research team, it will not be possible to trace your data as your individual responses cannot be identified.

Data will be securely stored on University of Warwick computers and will be processed only for the purpose of scientific analysis. Access to the data will be restricted to the investigators listed above. Anonymised data may be shared with other researchers recruited for the project. Summaries may be presented at conferences and included in scientific publications. Data will be reviewed on completion of the research, in line with the University of Warwick data retention policy.

The anonymised data may be used for future research following review and approval by an independent Research Ethics Committee and subject to your consent at the outset of this research project.
