Teaching
I have over 15 years of experience in higher education teaching, module development, curriculum design and research supervision, initially at the Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) and, since 2019, at the University of Warwick. My teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, bioinformatics and computational biology. Over the years, I have designed, developed and delivered a wide range of modules, combining strong theoretical foundations with practical applications and research-led teaching.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), awarded in 2021 through the Academic and Professional Pathway for Experienced Staff (APP EXP), in recognition of my experience and contributions to teaching, assessment, curriculum development and educational leadership.
My teaching philosophy is guided by the principle that “what I cannot build, I do not understand.” I adopt a research-inspired, hands-on approach to teaching that emphasises learning by doing, critical thinking and independent problem-solving. I encourage students to move beyond simply applying existing methods towards understanding their underlying principles, implementing ideas from first principles, questioning assumptions and exploring opportunities for innovation. I also supervise undergraduate, MSc and PhD research projects and serve as an examiner for postgraduate research degrees.
