Mark Arends
Mark Arends trained in Medicine and Pathology (BSc(Hons), MBChB(Hons), PhD) at the University of Edinburgh and became Senior Lecturer there in 1995 (MRCPath & and later FRCPath). He moved to University of Cambridge in 1999, becoming Reader in Histopathology and a Fellow of Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge (he is currently a Bye Fellow at Fitzwilliam College). He specialised in and was lead for lower gastrointestinal pathology, gynaecological pathology, and genetic tumour syndromes pathology. In 2013 he moved to University of Edinburgh as Professor of Pathology, Head of the Division of Pathology / Edinburgh Pathology and Director of the Centre for Comparative Pathology, which he established. In late 2025, he became an Honorary Professor at the University of Warwick Department of Computer Science working with the team at the Tissue Image Analytics Centre led by Professor Nasir Rajpoot. He is currently the General Secretary and was previously the President of the Pathological Society of Great Britain and Ireland.
