Research

My research includes:

  • Trust and reputation: When autonomous agents cooperate there is a risk that one or more of them may rescind on an agreement to cooperate, causing costs to be incurred by the remaining agents. My work investigates how trust and reputation can be used to manage this risk, particularly supported by provenance records and machine learning.
  • Machine learning and data mining: I am investigating the application of machine learning and data mining techniques in multi-agent systems, (online and offline) social networks and vehicle driver monitoring and intelligent vehicle applications, including mining telemetry and mobility data
  • Social norms and convention emergence: In large open populations, norms and conventions are a useful tool for enabling cooperation and coordination. I am investigating techniques for supporting and directing the emergence of norms and conventions.
  • Social network analysis: I work on developing techniques for characterising online and offline social networks, identifying and understanding influence and dynamics, and manipulating influence and behaviour propagation.
  • Legal aspects of service-oriented computing: My work includes investigating how legal concepts such as rights, obligations and liabilities can be agreed, defined and managed in the context of service-oriented computing and virtual organisations.
