Anupama Algarsamy
What is your current role and what does a typical week look like?
My current role is People Administration Officer and HR Coordinator. A typical week is varied, which is one of the aspects I enjoy most. I provide HR advice to managers and staff, oversee recruitment and onboarding, manage contractual changes, and support employee relations cases, while ensuring that HR processes remain compliant and efficient. I also coordinate the day-to-day HR operations within the School of Life Sciences.
Which part of your role do you enjoy the most, and what are the biggest challenges?
What I enjoy most is working with people and supporting colleagues through different stages of the employee journey. I also find it rewarding to identify opportunities to improve processes and make them more efficient. The biggest challenge is balancing multiple priorities while ensuring that each member of staff receives timely, high-quality support, particularly during busy recruitment periods.
Who would you say is your role model in your personal and/or professional life?
I do not have one specific role model, instead I have learned from a range of people I have worked with throughout my career. I value the different strengths, approaches, and perspectives they bring, and I have used these experiences to shape and develop my own way of working.
How has your education or roles previous to joining Life Sciences, informed your interests, and why did you choose this career direction?
My education and previous roles played an important part in shaping both my interests and my career direction. I began my HR career after completing a degree in Business Management and an MSc in Human Resource Management at LSE, where I developed a strong interest in how organisations manage people and create effective employee experiences.
What is your favourite place on campus and why?
My favourite place on campus is the Tocil Wood path leading into central campus. It provides a calm and peaceful break from the pace of the working day.
What are your main interests or passions, outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, especially exploring new places with my young daughter. I also enjoy DIY home projects, cooking, and reading about personal development. I am always keen to learn something new.
