Knowledge transfer: changing farmers' behaviour
Dr Clive Rahn, an Associate Fellow at Warwick Crop Centre, was a guest of Dr Ren Tao and Professor Lu Jianwei at the College of Resources and Environment at Huazhong Agricultural University, China between 22nd November and 6th December 2013. Clive shared his experience of managing nutrients over crop rotations, and the important challenges of knowledge transfer in changing the behaviour of farmers.
Clive, a soil science specialist, visited several experiments examining fertiliser response of rotations of rice and oilseed rape in the Yangtze River Basin, an area that produces 20% of the global food production of Oil Seed Rape. He also visited an important area of citrus production near the Three Gorges Dam as a guest of HuBei YishiZhang Agriculture Technology Limited, a company that produces fertilisers, where he took part in discussions about the nutrient and irrigation requirements of citrus crops.
Clive's visit marks the beginning of continuing dialogue with the Chinese agriculturalists.
