Biopesticides regulation informed by RELU research

Moth infected with an insect pathogenic fungus used for biocontrolWarwick’s interdisciplinary work on biopesticides has been highlighted by the BBSRC as an example of how research can have a positive impact on the agricultural economy.

The work, done by Dr Dave Chandler of the Warwick Crop Centre and Prof Wyn Grant of the Department of Politics and International Studies, developed a series of recommendations designed to aid the commercialisation of biopesticides, which are being used increasingly by farmers and growers in modern Integrated Pest Management.

The research team provided advice to government regulators, the European Parliament, retailers, growers and biopesticide companies. The work was funded as part of the Rural Economy and Land Use programme and has also been recognised by Defra’s Science Advisory Council.
