Luke Smith

Luke is now working towards a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Leeds

I am a MSc(Res) student working in the quantum information theory group led by Dr. Animesh Datta. I completed a BSc in Mathematics and Physics at the University of Warwick in 2016.

My research interests are in identifying the advantages one may obtain through quantum mechanics, and methods of measuring quantumness. I have primarily been studying the excitonic energy transport system of photosynthetic light harvesting and the design of ultrafast spectroscopic protocols that implement techniques which assess quantum properties for these systems. The driving motivation is to study the persistence of quantum coherence in noisy conditions, identify relations to physical structure and the parameters of the open quantum system, and to seek quantum enhancements in energy transport. This will assist in the understanding of what occurs in nature and may also identify improvements to be exploited in designing systems.
