Physics 60th birthday celebration
On Saturday 5th July, the department celebrated it’s 60th birthday celebration with a vibrant day of reflection as one of the University’s founding departments, and looked towards a bright future for Physics at Warwick as we continue to work to make a better world together. We welcomed 181 attendees, including alumni, current staff and students, previous members of staff as well as family and friends of the department.
The day was a great success with engaging talks and shared memories. Head of Department, Professor Mark Newton welcomed everyone back to the department, followed by a panel session from the Heads of research clusters offering insights into how far each group has progressed since it was established, and the exciting vision for the years ahead. We were lucky to have three previous Heads of Department share their reflections on their time as Head of Department, sharing key moments in the history of the department.
Image shows activities and science demonstrations on the Physics concourse, Prof. Malcolm Cooper reflecting on his time as Head of Department, and the University of Warwick logo on screen.
Guests enjoyed an array of demonstrations and fun activities throughout the day, and opportunities were available to join tours of the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance facilities and The Marsh Observatory. The celebrations continued in the afternoon with a BBQ and an exciting game of rounders to round off a memorable day.
A huge thank you to everyone attended, and especially to those who gave their time to organise the event and volunteer on the day.
