Jordan British Council and AQACHEI visit IER

Jordan British council at IERIER welcomed members of the Jordan British Council, the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutes and the higher education sector (AQACHEI) in October 2019. The delegation was comprised of key members responsible for the implementation of the Jordan National Qualification Framework.

They came to find out more about LMI for All and how it is supporting careers education and guidance within the education sector.

The event was organised by Lisa Collett from Cotswold Research who has been managing the Action Learning Forum project in Jordan.

The changing nature and integration of LMI into career practice

JB posterJenny Bimrose presented at the National Institute for Career Education and Counselling (NICEC) international conference in April 2019 on LMI for All.

She examined the integration of labour market information (LMI) with information communications technology (ICT) as a case study of the changing professional identity of career practitioners.

Drawing on two major research studies, this workshop focused on the influences of the changing nature, and integration of LMI into career practice through the use of ICT, on the professional identity transformation of career practitioners.

Invited presentation to the Tertiary Education Commission, New Zealand

puzzleJenny Bimrose and Alan Brown were invited to make presentations to the Tertiary Education Commission of New Zealand (TEC) at their offices in Wellington on 25th October, 2018. This organisation describes itself as a nexus linking learning and work. They were interested in hearing about:

  • How TEC can best serve our labour market needs through good investment in training and education
  • The alignment of good information and good career decision making
  • Ways of informing and educating learners and their families over a lifetime
  • Balancing the employment and socio-economic investment strategies in a way that will address skills mismatches and workforce needs.

Jenny Bimrose and Alan Brown made a formal presentation to about sixty senior TEC employees, followed by two more informal workshops. The three topics on which they spoke were:

  • The National Careers Strategy: integrating labour market information (LMI)
  • Integrating labour market information more effectively in career practice
  • The development of career adaptability in vocational education and training (VET).

Sally-Anne Barnes gave keynote at CDI student conference

SAb sources of lmiAs part of IER's continued engagement with the CDI , Sally-Anne Barnes gave a keynote at the CDI student conference 'From student to registered career development professional' on 28 March. Sally-Anne's keynote 'Using careers labour information and intelligence in practice' talked about the recent DfE Careers Strategy and the importance of LMI. She talked about what LMI is needed, where it comes from and how it can be used in practice. For more information on Sally-Anne's work on LMI go to the LMI for All website.
