Event: Online workshop presenting research on international labour market information systems
IER is undertaking research for the UK Department for Education examining international labour market information systems (LMIS) to investigate practice around gathering, processing, analysing and disseminating labour market intelligence (LMI), and how it is used to identify skills supply and demand – and mismatches – in both the present and future. We have been doing a review of seven national LMIS, including Australia, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Scotland and Sweden. An eighth case study drawing together practice around using big data in national LMIS has also been undertaken.
If you would like to hear some of our initial findings and join the discussions, we are organising an online workshop on 14 June. Please register your interest via the IER website.
Jordan British Council and AQACHEI visit IER
IER welcomed members of the Jordan British Council, the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutes and the higher education sector (AQACHEI) in October 2019. The delegation was comprised of key members responsible for the implementation of the Jordan National Qualification Framework.
They came to find out more about LMI for All and how it is supporting careers education and guidance within the education sector.
The event was organised by Lisa Collett from Cotswold Research who has been managing the Action Learning Forum project in Jordan.
TODAY: Cedefop launches the new Skills Panorama website
On the 1 December at 11.00 (CET) Cedefop will launch the new Skills Panorama website. Skills Panorama turns labour market data and information into useful, accurate and timely intelligence that informs policy-makers about skills and jobs in Europe. The new website will provide a more comprehensive and user-friendly central access point for information and intelligence on skill needs in occupations and sectors across Europe. The new Skills Panorama is intended primarily for policy-makers and experts. It provides them with a tool for developing evidence-based education and training and planning policy, including measures to tackle labour market mismatches.
Skills Panorama is brought to you by the European Commission and is powered by Cedefop. The Consortium composed of Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini, Cambridge Econometrics, RAND Europe and the University of Warwick’s Institute for Employment Research supported Cedefop by providing data analysis and intelligence on skills and labour markets for the new Skills Panorama. IER and Connexions Kent received National Careers Award
For the second year running, IER in partnership with Connexions Kent & Medway won a National Careers Award for ‘research by an organisation’. The event was organised by the Institute of Careers Guidance (the largest professional careers organisation in the UK) and was held in Leeds. The award was in recognition of the innovative research and development carried out by IER and Connexion Kent on Career Constructor. Career Constructor was the result of a three year research project on the integration of ICT in career guidance practice. It brings together information on over 800 jobs and over 400 videos with interactive exercises, local searches and customised career research – all aimed at providing a comprehensive web-based career package for young people. Career Constructor was designed to enable young people to conduct detailed career searches, record their own research and profile in an e-portfolio format, explore labour market data and rate jobs.
