Rules of engagement: the five of rules of love in Regency England

More than just late-night escapism and bingeworthy TV, period dramas encourage fascination and intrigue into fact vs fiction. The likes of Bridgerton, and its upcoming prequel highlights that for would be lovers in Georgian England, rules of engagement were a far cry from dating apps and romantic love in the modern world.

Coventry residents invited to travel back in time with Coventry on TV, the latest event from the Ghost Town TV archives project

Coventry residents will be able to travel back in time thanks to an exclusive compilation of archive TV news and other documentary footage, brought together by researchers at the University of Warwick, and on show for three days in the city centre. Theatre Absolute’s Shop Front Theatre in City Arcade will host the unique newsreel from Thursday 14 April until Saturday 16th.


Coventry's Film and TV Heritage Returns to City Centre

Coventry’s history of film and television is set to be celebrated with a new exhibition that provides Coventrians with a unique opportunity to view their city through the years, thanks to a new project led by Dr Helen Wheatley of Film and Television of Studies.

Coventry: Ghost Town Haunting #1 runs from the 16th-22nd April in the Shop Front Theatre with members of the public invited to watch extracts of programmes made in and about the city on the big screen in two vintage living room sets.

20th Anniversary for Ghostwatch parody spook show that sparked a new TV genre

This year represents the twentieth anniversary of the BBC faux-documentary Ghostwatch. The 90 minute drama, which first aired on 31st October 1992, caused a media storm and record numbers of calls to the BBC switchboard due to the frightening nature of the scenes and concern for the welfare of the presenter Sarah Greene, who appeared to be dragged behind a doorway to her apparent demise. University of Warwick researchers say that while it may no longer frighten after 20 years it has spawned a new genre of spectral reality TV.
