In order to meet our challenging climate change objectives, energy systems will need to become more interconnected. Increasing complexity in energy systems will need careful planning at a local and regional level in order to capitalise on local opportunities and overcome place-specific barriers. New commercial and regulatory models are being developed which could support the transition to a near zero carbon system.
