Circular Economy Network+ in Transportation Systems (CENTS)
Deadline: 7 May 2020
The Circular Economy Network+ in Transportation Systems (CENTS) has received funding from the EPSRC to build a UK-wide community of academic, industry and policy experts to deliver future designs, business models and manufacturing approaches so that emergent transport systems are inherently circular.
From 31 March 2020, CENTS invites proposals for collaborations between academic and industry partners that will enable cross-disciplinary, foresightful and risky early stage research. Applications involving Early Career Researchers (ECRs) are particularly encouraged. Projects are expected to be approximately 6 months in length. The expectation is to fund up to five projects of up to a maximum value of £50,000 at full Economic Cost (fEC), with funding to be awarded at 80% fEC.
Call details and application form available on the CENTS website.
EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) are one of the biggest schemes we fund as part of our commitment to knowledge exchange. The KTP scheme's mission is to strengthen the UK's competitiveness and wealth creation by enabling research organisations to apply their research knowledge to important business problems.
At the heart of each KTP is a relationship between a company/organisation and staff in a knowledge base institution. The institution's staff apply their expertise to a project that will help the development of their collaborative partner. The project is carried out by an associate (a recent graduate or postgraduate), who also benefits from an organised training programme. In the process, the business relevance of the knowledge base institution is enhanced.
If you require further information please email: esrcktp@esrc.ukri.org
Further information about KTPs, including contact details for KTP Offices and KTP Advisers is available on the KTP website.
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) invites proposals for interdisciplinary networks under the second wave of the Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) Clean Air programme.
The aim of the second wave of funding is to equip the UK to proactively tackle new and emerging air quality challenges related to changing emissions and exposure patterns and impacts on vulnerable groups of people. The programme objectives are to:
- Build a new UK interdisciplinary community at the interface of indoor/outdoor air quality emissions, exposure and health impacts.
- Deliver new knowledge that:
- provides critical foresight on emerging air pollution challenges and associated health risks; and
- enables us to better understand and quantify human behavioural change and practices and how to influence through communication and technology interventions in order to limit exposure routes and mitigate health risks at vulnerable stages of the life course.
- Provide consistent, evidence-based advice for stakeholders through open data and tools in order to stimulate policy and regulatory innovation.
- Stimulate business-led innovation for sustainable products and services to protect health at the indoor/outdoor interface and grow UK businesses.
EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub in Manufacture using Advanced Powder Processes (MAPP) – 2nd Round Feasibility Studies
MAPP, the EPSRC Future Manufacturing Hub, is offering funding for at least 3 feasibility studies to conduct novel research which closely aligns with the Hub’s core research programme: Powders by Design and Process by Design. We are looking for research projects that align with and complement MAPP’s research programme and have the potential to lead to further collaboration and funding bids.
The call is open to all UK academics eligible to receive EPSRC funding and is the primary mechanism for new academic collaborators to engage with the Hub. Awards are limited to projects with a maximum duration of six months and maximum value of £50,000 (80% FEC).
Further details of MAPP can be found at the MAPP website.
Transforming the UK food system for healthy people and a healthy environment call and workshops
UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with government are pleased to announce a highly ambitious £25 million call for research to fundamentally transform the UK food system, by placing healthy people and a healthy natural environment at its centre. Proposals are invited for interdisciplinary research consortia to take a systems approach, linking healthy and accessible diets with sustainable food production and supply to help drive food system transformation. This programme aims to address health, environmental and social challenges simultaneously, bringing together researchers, policymakers, business and civil society to develop evidence for multi-pronged and simultaneous action across the food system.
For further information on background, scope, workshops and how to apply please see: BBSRC: Transforming the UK food system for healthy people and a healthy environment call and workshops.
