Geneva Peace Week
Members of our Spotlight Leadership Team, Briony Jones and Rebecca Morris, co-hosted an event with the UN Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) at Geneva Peace Week. The event, ‘Bridging Generations: Co-Creating Solutions for Peace and Social Development’ focused on developing a manifesto for social development in the run up to the 2025 Second World Summit for Social Development. Participants at the event came from academia, research, and civil society, and the discussions focused on social protection, economy, and education. Briony and Rebecca will continue to work with UNRISD on a research paper, and to mentor youth peacemakers from the Geneva area.
Russell Group assembles expert panel to advise on universities’ role in delivering Industrial Strategy
Vice-Chancellor Stuart Croft, will chair a new expert advisory panel formed by the Russell Group. The panel will develop strategies to boost the impact of UK universities in supporting the government’s Industrial Strategy. Comprised of business and academic leaders, the panel will provide recommendations to enhance collaboration between universities, government, and industry, driving economic growth and innovation.
Spotlight Talks: Profs. Roberta Bivins and Elena Korosteleva at WMS and SLS.
Professors Roberta Bivins (Health Spotlight) and Elena Korosteleva (Sustainability Spotlight) visited Warwick Medical School and the School of Life Sciences to highlight and explore collaboration opportunities with the Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights. They talked about the potential for interdisciplinary funding, boosting impact and visibility, and training for early-career researchers. At COP29, held in November 2024, Prof. Korosteleva mentioned there will be the launch of the ECR Training Academy for Sustainable Futures, introductions to the Warwick Climate Governance and Policy Network leading up to COP30, and the Cross-Spotlight forum planned for July 2025.
