Introduction

The University of Warwick’s Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights are a new initiative that aim to develop interdisciplinary research capability at Warwick and to promote a vibrant interdisciplinary research culture. The Spotlights are six interdisciplinary research clusters, bringing together diverse communities of practice that will work towards raising Warwick’s overall research and impact profile in those areas, nationally and internationally.

The six Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights are: Sustainability, Health, Business & Manufacturing, Society & Culture, Digital and Behaviour.

In addition to these Spotlights, there is an Interdisciplinary Research Development Fund (IRDF) that offers seed funding for innovative interdisciplinary research projects.

Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights: Research Development Fund (IRDF): Call for Applications

The IRDF invites seed funding applications typically up to a maximum of £15,000. Applications should align with one or more of the six Spotlights. They should seek to enhance or complement the activities of the Spotlights and foster collaboration across Departments and Faculties.

Applications may be for interdisciplinary research projects or for other research initiatives that stimulate cross discipline/faculty collaboration and/or external partnerships. In all cases, applications should make clear how they will support future external funding applications. While £15,000 is normally the maximum award value, the panel are willing to consider bids up to £25,000 in exceptional circumstances. Projects requesting more than £15,000 must liaise with the Scheme contact in advance of making the application. All funding must be fully spent by 31 July 2025.
