Unsettling the Anthropos

On November 28th 2024, as a part of the NEXUS project, IGSD hosted a Climate Knowledge Production Café followed by a panel discussion with leading climate authors and a writing workshop. This event challenged the human-centered narratives that shape how we address climate issues. It provided an opportunity to explore diverse perspectives, confront harmful systems, and foster pathways towards positive change.

Seeds of Hope & Action Exhibition Launch

On November 28th 2024, Sustainability and Society & Culture Spotlights supported

the Seeds of Hope and Action (SOHA) Exhibition, co-created by Soka Gakkai International and the Earth Charter International. The exhibition features panels serving as a catalyst for positive change and a platform to move communities towards a more sustainable future.

Prof Elena Korosteleva attends COP29

In November 2024, Sustainability Spotlight Chair, Prof Elena Korosteleva, was a board member of the scientific council at COP29, in Baku. Alongside engaging in global dialogues on climate governance and sustainable development, Elena also announced the launch of the Training Academy for Sustainable Futures, a new initiative.

Azerbaijani Collaboration on Sustainability Initiatives

On October 16th 2024, IGSD and Sustainability Spotlight hosted Dr. Günel Ismailzada from Azerbaijan, a COP 29 Scientific Council member. She discussed COLAB3 and the ECR Training Academy for Sustainable Futures with the Steering Group, exploring possible project ideas on water scarcity, just transitions, gender equality, and climate change. The meeting also launched COLAB5 - The Road to COP30.

COLAB2: Learning Circle

WESIC and COLAB2 hosted their first learning circle workshop on 10th September 2024. There was an informal talk from Dr Ludovica Gazze, discussing the journey from inception to submission of a project funded in round 1 of the UKRI cross research council responsive mode pilot. Attendees also had opportunities to network and discuss potential project ideas.

Time to Talk

Held on July 4th 2024, the consultation session “Time to Talk” generated numerous ideas for the Sustainability Spotlight moving forwards.

IGSD Network Day

On 2nd July 2024, IGSD held a network away day to assess its strategy and outline growth plans, including for its Thematic and Honorary Fellows' networks, while exploring ways to enhance integration and contributions to the Sustainability Spotlight.

WESIC Annual Meeting

Held on June 24th 2024, the WESIC annual meeting brought together environment researchers from the university, featuring sessions on biodiversity, pollution, and climate change. A new group, established with the Estates Sustainability Team, was launched to use Warwick campus as a living lab. There was also opportunities for networking and identifying potential research collaborations.

NEXUS Event

Led by Prof. Stuart Coles, early career researchers were invited to interact and enhance their interdisciplinary network and research journey, with opportunities to apply for pump-prime funding. This NEXUS event focused on food, water, and energy supply and security, exploring research opportunities in the West Midlands.

Confluence: Situating the Environmental Humanities

Hosted by the Environmental Humanities Network in May/June 2024, the international Confluence symposium united network scholars with partners from the 2023 EUTOPIA Connected Community. It also marked the launch of Warwick's MA in Environmental Humanities.
