- Export as iCalendar
Location: Microsoft Teams

This workshop is tailored to PGRs in the STEM disciplines. STEM is an academic term that refers to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics - and includes disciplines in the life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, and the health sciences.

In this session, we consider how the concept of ’audience’ and context shapes a piece of writing within STEM disciplines. We will ‘unpack’ the different types of reader who will be engaging with our writing during our doctoral studies and will encounter some useful strategies for meeting the needs of these reader through effective written style, textual organisation and ‘positioning’. This session places emphasis on the ability to be an adaptable writer, able to develop a formal, professional style when communicating scientific information. The workshop will be of particular interest to researchers who are at an early or mid-way stage in their project work.
