Active listening - for interviewing, for work, for lifeInterviewing for your research? Being interviewed? Want to make sure that you clearly communicating? The way to improve your listening skills is to practice "active listening." This is where you make a conscious effort to hear not only the words that another person is saying but, more importantly, the complete message being communicated. In order to do this you must pay attention to the other person very carefully. Active listening is an important research skill, but also supports you as a team member, leader, teacher and mentor. |

Research Methods Series 3: Qualitative methodologies, data collection and analysisThis workshop aims to provide you with an overview of a range of qualitative analytical skills and methodologies, which can be applied in a range of research settings. The workshop will introduce how qualitative data can be collected (interviews, surveys, focus groups) and analysed using thematic, grounded theory, narrative, interpretative phenomenological, and ethnographic analysis. In addition, a range of data analysis packages will also be covered (Signpost to IT session). All participants during the session will have an opportunity to analyse a piece of text to apply learned knowledge to practice. |
