- Scholarships are awarded for the length indicated in your offer letter and normally includes the payment of both academic fees and a maintenance stipend to the award-holder. Funding is not retrospective.
- Stipend payments will be made up to and including the month that the thesis is submitted for examination (first submission), the agreed end of the funded period, or upon the award holder’s permanent withdrawal, whichever is earlier. Unless stated in the offer letter, stipend payments will not continue beyond the point of first submission.
- The University’s decision over fee status will be final. By accepting the award, you are confirming that you accept your assigned fee status and are not aware of any evidence that might alter this classification. If you do not disclose such evidence and the University becomes aware of it at a later date, your scholarship award may be revoked.
- Your fees are covered in full by this scholarship. Payment of the maintenance grant is set at the prevailing UKRI rateLink opens in a new window. Payment of a Researcher Training Support Grant (RTSG) is as advertised.
- Awards for 2026/27 are ordinarily expected to begin on 05 October 2026. The award may be deferred up until 31 December 2026 with prior permissions from the Doctoral College and your department. Deferral up to 30 March 2027 will be allowed in exceptional circumstances with prior permission from the Chair of the Postgraduate Research Subcommittee and your department.
- Accommodation fees are not directly covered by the scholarship. The stipend is intended to be a contribution towards living expenses.
- The scholarship award-holder is expected to participate periodically in a range of postgraduate recruitment and community focused activities, which might include postgraduate open days; induction events; focus groups; receptions held with potential sponsors or alumni, student talks etc.
