EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellowships
We are delighted to announce seven new six-month postdoctoral fellowships, open to candidates who have recently completed an EPSRC funded doctoral scholarship at any UK institution. Fellowships will start on 01 October 2025, ending on 31 March 2026.
Fellows will be supported by an academic mentor from their primary department and will focus on building momentum from their doctoral research. Activities may include but are not limited to publishing papers, presenting at conferences, preparing grant or fellowship applications, and collaborating with external partners.
In addition, EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway Fellows will become Associate Fellows of the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS), joining a dynamic and supportive postdoctoral community. They will also benefit from IAS’s tailored Academic Careers & Leadership Development training and networking opportunities.
Fellows will benefit from a salary of £35,608 per annum, pro-rata plus a £2,500 research support grant. These fellowships are awarded on a non-FEC basis, meaning only directly incurred research costs are eligible, and all costs must comply with UKRI’s usual grant conditions.
Fellows will be required to submit a brief final report by the end of March 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Have received EPSRC doctoral funding at a UK institution, including CDT, DTP, or iCASE. Applicants who were funded by other UK Research Councils or other funders are not eligible to apply.
- Have submitted their thesis for examination between 01 April 2024 and 30 September 2025. Candidates who have not yet submitted must provide a statement from their supervisor confirming they will submit by 30 September 2025 in lieu of evidence of submission.
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Be available to undertake the fellowship from 01 October 2025 to 31 March 2026. A deferred start date will result in a shorter fellowship period as it is not possible to extend the fellowship end date. Although fellowships are usually full-time, part-time applications will be considered, though this will not extend the length of the fellowship.
- Be undertaking activities that relate to research within the EPSRC remit.
Review Criteria
Applications will be considered by a panel of academic and professional services colleagues with a scientific but non-specialist background.
- Academic track record (from CV and reference), considering:
- Publication record and other research-related outputs
- Funding awarded during the postgraduate and/or research career
- Letter of reference
- Quality of proposed activities (from application form and academic mentor statement of support), considering:
- Planned outputs from the fellowship
- Other activities that will support the launch of a research career
- The potential impact of the proposed activities
- Feasibility given the short fellowship timeline
- Alignment to the EPSRC research remit
To apply, complete and submit the form below, including all necessary supporting documents. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
