Application Form - 2024 Entry

The UG Sanctuary Scholarship Application Form below is divided into 7 sections:

  1. About you (your personal details and contact information)
  2. Sanctuary eligibility (your immigration status and right to study)
  3. Financial eligibility (your access to UK Government Student Financial Support)
  4. Education eligibility (your previous qualifications and Undergraduate degree course choice)
  5. Referee details (contact details for your referee - this should be someone who knows you in a professional capacity, such as a teacher, social worker or solicitor)
  6. Required Attachments / Documents (evidence of your Sanctuary eligibility and right to study, your personal statement and your referee's supporting statement)

  7. Declaration

Please note that Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarships are available for up to 4 years of study and the following courses are not eligible:

  • Courses taught at Partner Colleges or Universities
  • 4-year graduate entry MBChB course
  • Year 1 Foundation courses in the Warwick Business School
  • Module based courses
  • Non-degree awards (Higher Education Diploma, Higher Education Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma)

This is a 10-digit number – you should be able to find this on any emails from UCAS

Section 2: Sanctuary Eligibility


The following question asks you about your current immigration status with the UK government. You will be asked to upload evidence of this status and evidence of your right to study at the bottom of this form.

Please select the category which best describes your current immigration status in the UK - please mark only ONE available option (required)

Please note that students who have been granted refugee status or protection under specific schemes that make them eligible for 'Home fee' status and/or student loans from the UK government, such as the Ukraine Schemes or Afghan Schemes, are not eligible for the Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship.


Section 3: Financial Eligibility


To be eligible for the Undergraduate Sanctuary Scholarship, you must not be eligible for UK Government Student Financial Support (Tuition Fee Loans and Maintenance Loans).

Section 5: Referee Details


Your referee should know you in a professional capacity, such as a teacher, social worker or solicitor, and should provide a supporting statement on your behalf. You should upload your referee's supporting statement in Section 6 below.

6.1: Sanctuary/Immigration eligibility documentation

To support your application, please prove that you meet the Sanctuary Eligibility criteria in Section 2 by uploading evidence of:

  • The immigration status you currently hold with the UK government

AND

  • Evidence of your right to study

Evidence could include copies of your ARC, BRP, a Home Office Letter or a solicitor's letter. You can upload this evidence under Section 6 "Attach files" below.                 


6.2: Personal Statement

Please attach your personal statement (under Section 6 "Attach files" below). In no more than 750 words, please tell us why we should choose you as a scholar. 

Your statement should include:

1. Details of your personal and family circumstances and the barriers you may have faced in continuing your education - with particular reference to your current status in the UK. You do not need to give details of the events that led you to seek asylum unless you wish to do so.

2. Your ambitions for the future, why you have chosen your course of study and how the UG Sanctuary Scholarship will help you to achieve your goals.

3. Details of your and your family's current financial circumstances.

4. Any additional support you feel you may need to succeed at university.


6.3: Referee's Supporting Statement

The Referee's Supporting Statement is an important part of the selection process. Ideally, your referee should know you in a professional capacity, such as a teacher, social worker or solicitor. The referee statement must be on letter headed paper and be signed and dated by your referee.

Please attach your referee's statement (under Section 6 "Attach files" below) of no more than 750 words. 

Your referee should include the following information:

1. What are the applicant's personal and financial circumstances and what barriers have they overcome to continue their education?

2. How well suited is the applicant to the higher education course they plan to take and how realistic are the student's ambitions?

3. What contribution, to your knowledge, has the applicant made to their school/college and local community.

4. How do you think the student would benefit from the support offered by Warwick's UG Sanctuary Scholarship?

5. Is there any other information that you consider is relevant to the student's application?
