Cost of living: boots and shoes
These adverts were published in trade union and labour movement journals between 1910-1924, and would have been targeted at a working class audience. They give a general idea of the cost of one of the essentials for a physically demanding working class job - a decent pair of boots. When money was short, boots would be patched up to prolong their life for as long as possible - either by professional cobblers or by someone in the household.
