News
Our news feed contains information about new resources, newly catalogued or acquired archive collections, current and upcoming projects and events, and service developments.
Information about past work at the Modern Records Centre is included in our annual reports and information bulletins (available online from 1996/7 to 2016/7). Recordings of several past events are also available - the student-led Open Education Series, 2014-2016, and the schools project Archives Alive, 2016.
Partial re-opening
The Modern Records Centre will be re-opening from 3 November to University of Warwick researchers only.
In light of the new lockdown to be introduced on 5 November we will remain closed to external researchers until further notice.
We will be operating with reduced staff and reduced capacity, and there will be some changes to how our service operates.
We will now be open on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays between 9.30-12.30 and 1.30-4.30. We will not be open on Mondays or Fridays.
We will require researchers to:
- Book a space at least one full working day (minimum of 24 hours) before the visit
- Order all documents required at least one full working day (minimum of 24 hours) before the visit, giving the document reference codes. A maximum of 6 boxes or 15 individual items will be produced per person per day
- Wear face coverings whilst in the building and observe the general guidelines for Covid-19 which apply to all buildings on the campus
- Be aware of the changes in opening hours and the lunchtime closure period
More detailed information about visiting the Modern Records Centre and changes to our service under the current pandemic conditions is available elsewhere on our website.
The Modern Records Centre: partial resumption of service - update
The Modern Records Centre is now beginning to return to a fuller service. MRC staff are now able to access the building and collections in order to provide a more prompt enquiry and digitisation service. However, we regret that we are unable to provide visiting access for external researchers at the moment. We will endeavour to support remote researchers with advice, information and digitisation of materials as far as possible.
Screens have been ordered to help provide a safe environment for both staff and researchers but have yet to arrive. Once these have been received we will be opening, initially for Warwick researchers only. We will publish information about the reopening date and how to book as soon as the arrangements have been confirmed.
More information on the university's current coronavirus policy is available elsewhere on the university website, including the Vice-Chancellor's announcement of the closure and information about how the closure will affect the university library as a whole.
History Club Autumn Term

‘History Club’ is aimed at 16-18 year olds who are studying History (or English, Politics, or any subject really!) and want to learn more about how historical research is done, published, and used.
It is a collaboration between the Modern Record Centre and the Department of History. Every week, we’ll explore a new historical topic by looking at an academic journal article or primary source, and introduce students to the skill of academic reading.
