Warwick’s MA in Conflict, Peace and Negotiation equips students with the knowledge and practical skills to understand, prevent and resolve violent conflict in an increasingly complex world.

The programme explores the causes of conflict, the evolution of peace processes, and the theory and practice of international mediation, negotiation, and post-conflict recovery. It bridges theory and practice through case studies, simulations, policy exercises, and engagement with practitioners. Teaching is delivered by internationally recognised experts whose research has shaped debates on peace mediation, governance in divided societies, transitional justice, forced displacement, climate-related conflict, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, and the political institutions that support sustainable peace. Building on Warwick's global reputation for excellence in international politics and conflict research, students can tailor their studies through a wide range of optional modules across PAIS and the wider University. Graduates will be well prepared for careers in international organisations, diplomacy, government, NGOs, policy analysis, peacebuilding, and doctoral study.

  • Theoretical skills: situate the study of conflict and peace in historical trends and contemporary challenges to understand conflict drivers and dynamics that influence negotiations
  • Critical analysis: explore the conflict, peace, and negotiation cycle, the different types of conflict settlements, and how peace can be built inclusively from communities.
  • Competing perspectives: evaluate different viewpoints and make sense of complex conflict situations
