Minimum requirements

The course is designed for those in employment as you will need to apply your studies directly to the work environment throughout the programme.

We recommend you have at least three years of appropriate professional experience and that you possess the equivalent of a UK second-class honours degree.

The course is also open to talented people without a first degree, who have relevant work-experience, have taken a less-traditional route in their career and who will have shown great potential in the business. Please contact us to discuss.

• IELTS overall score of 6.5, minimum component scores not below 6.0

We offer a range of modules designed to enable you to focus on what is appropriate to your company, your career and aspirations. This is achieved through a mix of core and optional modules.

Core modules

Accounting and Finance for Management

This module provides the financial and accounting knowledge to be able to analyse, interpret, extrapolate and produce financial data.

Intelligent Organisations

This module gives leaders and aspiring leaders what they need to understand and act effectively in a world that is increasingly ‘digital’ and ‘connected’ – recognising the impact this has on existing ‘physical’ assets, and on the ultimate asset of any organisation, ‘people’.

People in Organisations

People are the key and most important resource in an organisation. This module focuses on the strategic management of the people resource in organisations and how this relates to the wider organisational context and business strategy.

Strategic Business Management

This module looks at the role of Business Strategy in organisations. It addresses the importance of strategy to the organisation and examines the process for developing and implementing an effective strategy.

Supply Chain and Operations Management

Future leaders need to be equipped with practical knowledge of how to effectively manage supply and demand within the supply network. This module explores the management of supply network relationships, as well as understanding the impact of efficient delivery in companies which value customer centricity.

Innovation

Participants will apply concepts, models, and frameworks to understand and critically evaluate the potential for innovation in corporations and start-ups.

Leading Change

This module provides participants with an opportunity to understand change – its drivers, risks, consequences and people’s responses.

Personal Leadership and Change

The aim of this module is to provide participants with the opportunity and resources to determine their own learning needs to enable them to develop as an authentic leader.

Project Planning, Management and Control

Project Management is an essential competence for managers and leaders. This module aims to teach the generic principles of project planning, management and control for any project in any environment.

Technology Management

Participants will consider the role that technology plays in supporting current and future business, and how to manage the technology from cradle to grave.

Project

To gain your MSc, you will also need to complete a Company Based Project. This will focus on a live issue within your organisation which you will explore, together with an academic supervisor from WMG, over a 12 month period. The project will culminate in the writing of a dissertation, which will count toward 1/3 of the credit of your degree.

Module availability

Module availability and staffing may change year on year depending on availability and other operational factors. We make no guarantee that any modules will be offered in a particular year, or that they will necessarily be taught by the staff listed on the module pages.

Teaching

You’ll study for three years on a part-time basis for the MSc. There are five core modules, three elective modules and a company based project dissertation.

In addition to the eight assessed modules, there will be a study skills (non-assessed) event delivered at the start of the course to set the context, introduce key study skills and enable you to meet your fellow cohort and start to build your network. We also run an online study skills event before you embark on your project dissertation.

Modules normally comprise lectures, seminars, and undertaking group tasks based on real scenarios. We will use a range of traditional and innovative teaching methods, predominantly focused on blended learning practices. For some modules you will have the option to attend fully online. Our blended learning is a combination of face-to-face and online delivery and is aimed at offering a combination of flexibility and networking opportunities for work-based learners. We will be able to give you the schedule in advance so you can plan your time out of the office.

Class sizes

The class size for this programme is around 20 students.

Typical contact hours

Modules are usually delivered in a week-long block format from Monday to Thursday 9am – 6pm and Friday 9am – 12pm.

Assessment

We will use a range of assessment methods that are appropriate to the topics being taught. Of course, you will need to undertake reading and assignments, but these assignments are usually related to your workplace and help you to apply what you have learnt. Students often find that the assignments provide valuable evidence of continuing professional development, demonstrate to their organisations their developing knowledge, and often benefit the company by providing an analysis of an area of operations.

Your timetable

Your personalised timetable will be complete when you are registered for all modules, compulsory and optional, and you have been allocated to your lectures, seminars and other small group classes. Your compulsory modules will be registered for you and you will be able to choose your optional modules when you join us.

Tuition fees

Typically, most students on this programme are sponsored by their employer, but self-funding is also an option.

Tuition fees are payable for each year of your course at the start of the academic year, or at the start of your course, if later. Academic fees cover the cost of tuition, examinations and registration and some student amenities.

Fee Status Guidance

The University carries out an initial fee status assessment based on information provided in the application and according to the guidance published by UKCISA. Students are classified as either Home or Overseas Fee status and this can determine the tuition fee and eligibility of certain scholarships and financial support.

If you receive an offer, your fee status will be stated with the tuition fee information. If you believe your fee status has been incorrectly classified you can complete a fee status assessment questionnaire (follow the instructions in your offer) and provide the required documentation for this to be reassessed.

As well as tuition fees and living expenses, there may be general associated costs such as:

• Robe hire for your degree ceremony

*Dissertations and Assignments are only submitted digitally. However students may wish to print and bind their dissertation for their own purposes. Students on some courses will have a final poster presentation as part of their project and the printing of posters will be at the students’ expense.
