Valerie Hitchman has come across an unusual chart on the back of the St Mary's Devizes churchwarden's accounts from 1550. Have any members come across something similar or have any insights into how this may have been used? If so, please contact Valerie on firstname.lastname@example.org or respond to this post.

Unusual chart in a churchwarden's accounts
You have probably found an answer to this by now and I can only offer observations rather than answers.
The middle symbol top right not in the grid looks like the alchemical symbol for salt.
Or as the eights and nines in particular appear to be formed by different hands is it possible that if the clerk took pupils is it a handwriting exercise or training for churchwardens to help them record accounts?0 likes
